How To: Hide an Inductive Charging Station Inside Your Furniture

Hide an Inductive Charging Station Inside Your Furniture

Inductive charging has been around since the days of Nikola Tesla, but it has yet to be integrated into a lot of popular devices. This is partially because it's slower and more expensive than methods that involve direct contact.

These criticisms may be valid, but DragonDevs member Carnivore thinks it may also have something to do with the fact that most inductive charging modules are just plain ugly. His solution? Put the charging station inside the furniture so you don't have to see it at all.

Starting with a Duracell Powermat, he took it apart and desoldered the circuit board.

After cutting out a space for it in the shelf, he resoldered the board to an extended power plug and glued it inside the shelf.

Finally, he covered the circuit board with liquid electrical tape. Check out the video for a step-by-step explanation of the process and to see the final product in action.

This hack would probably work with just about any piece of furniture you want, and doesn't seem to be too complicated. Be sure to share your results if you decide to try it for yourself.
